Arrecife Ayuntamiento are drafting new rules to regulate and clean up the coastline of Lanzarote’s capital.
Around half of the boats situated at the Charco de San Ginés are believed to be illegal or abandoned. The council intends to remove any boats not identified or found without proper documentation. The regulations will prohibit boats to be beached in the future and limit those greater than 2.5 metres in length to anchor within designated areas of the charco.
Another area the council want to get tough on is the regulation of smoking on the capital’s beaches and coastline. The issue with smoking is one of cleanliness, as more often than not the cigarette butts once extinguished are left on the sand or flicked into the water, neither of which is good for the environment.
Fines for breach of the proposed coastal regulations start at 750 euros, with serious offences ranging from 1500-3000 euros.
The big purge is under way! The old run down wrecks of buildings are being demolished and eye sores are being removed. Better late than never.
I am so pleased to report that the island is busy and buzzing! The new port near to Arrecife is well worth a visit and everything is on the up.
New restaurants and businesses are sprouting in unexpected places and the housing market is on the up..All good news for the Island.
COME AND SEE US SOON.
